Behind the Scenes at MIT
“Behind the Scenes at MIT” is a collection of short videos that feature MIT researchers explaining how a textbook chemistry topic is essential to their research and to an inspiring real-world application. There are currently twelve science videos, which can be searched by chemistry topic (i.e. acids and bases) or by research application (i.e. fighting cancer). For each science video, there is an accompanying personal video that describes that scientist’s journey to the bench. The video series was developed by Professor Cathy Drennan's Education Lab.
MIT + K12
MIT+K12 is an initiative of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to harness the creativity of MIT's most outstanding asset—its students—in bringing excitement and understanding of science, technology, engineering, and math to kids.
The Software Tools for Academics and Researchers (STAR) program at MIT seeks to bridge the divide between scientific research and the classroom. Understanding and applying research methods in the classroom setting can be challenging due to time constraints and the need for advanced equipment and facilities. The multidisciplinary STAR team collaborates with faculty from MIT and other educational institutions to design software exploring core scientific research concepts. The goal of STAR is to develop innovative and intuitive teaching tools for classroom use.
All of the STAR educational tools are freely available. To complement the educational software, the STAR website contains curriculum components/modules which can facilitate the use of STAR educational tools in a variety of educational settings. Students, teachers, and professors should feel welcome to download software and curriculum modules for their own use.
Blended Learning Open Source Science or Math Studies (BLOSSOMS) is a free repository of video modules for high school math and science classes. The ultimate goal is to gather a large body of content generated by gifted volunteer teachers from around the world.
Resources currently available on the site were provided by MIT faculty and PhD students, and include resources in mathematics, physics and biology. The website is growing, and over the coming months there will be BLOSSOMS video modules created by educators in Jordan and Pakistan - all available in English.
The InvenTeam initiative, created by the Lemelson-MIT Program, offers an unparalleled opportunity for high school students to cultivate their creativity and experience invention. InvenTeams are teams of high school students, teachers, and mentors that receive grants up to $10,000 each to invent technological solutions to real-world problems. Each InvenTeam chooses its own problem to solve. InvenTeam students rely on inquiry and hands-on problem solving as they apply lessons from science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to develop invention prototypes throughout a school year. Prototypes are showcased at MIT in June.

Physical Science Study Committee (PSSC)
The PSSC began in 1956 as a collaboration between MIT physics professors and high school physics teachers, and dramatically changed the way physics is taught in U.S. high schools.
MIT Educational Studies Program
ESP was created in 1957 by MIT students who wanted to share their knowledge and creativity with local high school students.
MIT Women's Technology Program
The MIT Women's Technology Program (WTP) is a rigorous four-week summer academic and residential experience where female high school students explore engineering through hands-on classes, labs, and team-based projects in the summer after 11th grade.
